Christmas 2003

For his 75th birthday my stepfather, Warren, decided to invite 24 of his family/friends to join him in the Keys (Florida) for Christmas. Bernice (his wife) did an extraordinary job of arranging things (she flew down in advance and found/booked a different restaurant for each night etc.). My brother and his family had a long flight in from London so I arranged to meet them in the Miami airport and then we spent the night in an Art Deco hotel in South Beach (the Marseilles). My stepsister, Vicky, flew in from The Hague with her husband Piet and their daughters Kate and Lena and stayed at the same hotel. The next day we drove, in convoy, down to Islamorada (Mile Marker 81). We had a great week but most of my pictures did not come out well - here are the best of the bunch. Click on the thumbnails (small pictures) and you will get a pop up window with the larger (scanned in) photo.

On the way down we stopped in the Everglades and took an airboat ride.

The boat dropped us on a hammock where they had these blue birds.

I saw a few snakes but it was too cold for the alligators.

This Pelican almost lived on the hotel's pier.

Alex looked on while Bill caught his first fish.

We had lunch across the road at the Lorelei Restaurant.

Santa came buy the hotel and gave Bill and Alex plastic thermal mugs!

Henry and Bill went on a fishing boat.

Herb, Gerry, Larry and Bryan (aka Uncle Fuzzy) also went on the trip.

Bill was "High Hook".

Captain Xavier helped release the fish.

Nice one Bill!

They found this baby octopus in a lobster trap that Herb caught.

Bill and Henry were a little windblown by the trip.

Bill had a great time.

Let Henry know if you think he should keep his hair off his forehead.

Henry, Bill, Alex and Sue just before they flew back to London.

Then I got in the picture and Sue took the last shot.

Everyone had a terrific vacation - thanks Warren!!!
